Theory of TVSS protector design utilized by Lightning Mike
Manufactured by ITD of Destin, Inc.
The purpose of the TVSS protector design is to create a temporary and instantaneous equipotential bond between all the combinations
of conductors. By controlling the transient voltages between all of the combinations of conductors, we prevent damaging transient current
flow through the protected loads.
The protector works like a voltage controlled high-speed, high-power switch. When a transient voltage appears between protected conductors
which exceeds the present switching level in either the positive or negative direction, the protector switches instantaneously to a low impedance
state. In the low impedance, the protector maintains a low and controlled voltage across the protected conductors. This allows the protector
to divert the damaging transient current away for the protected load(s). And, it instantaneously resets after the transient voltage drops below
the present switching level.
Think of the protector as a transient thermostat which controls transient voltage just like the temperature thermostat in your home or
office regulates the temperature.
We tailor each product for its intended application and select the best technologies for that application. ITD protectors use every
known technology. And, with 20 years of unmatched field and laboratory proven experience in the protection industry, we know what works
and what does not work. Each member of the ITD product family is built upon this successful product experience base.
